Food Spotlight

After five years and many good times we enjoyed at Zest, they are bigger and better than ever.  Even though they moved from their previous venue to the beautiful newly renovated Protea Hotel by Marriott in Upington, you can still find the same friendly staff and ownership.  Roelof’s love for rabbits and antiques are also slowly starting to show again in his stylish but unique décor taste.

After only one visit you realize that Roelof has a passion for not only food but and spoiling his friends but also training and inspiring his staff, challenging them every day to do better.

At Zest you find something for everyone to eat and drink.  Fine dine for the special occasion, local home cooked dishes for the tourist and visitor, beautiful and delicious pizzas and craft burgers for the one who just want to enjoy a night out on town or have take aways at home.  For me personally, I always love their home made Butternut Ravioli and their variety of fresh salads are the best for a hot Upington summers day.  For my daughter you can treat her any day with a slice of baked cheesecake, according to her the best in the world.

But recently my husband and I decided to enjoy some quality time with something else from Zest that we easily forgotten about because date night is not something you get time for often.  We ordered a Box of Love for two from Zest to enjoy on a private date outside, with cold and crisp non-alcoholic sparkling wine from Robertson Wines.  And again we were not only spoiled with a lot of different tastes from every dish but also how Roelof and his team has the ability to put a full 4 course meal in one little box.  We started off with local Salami sticks, thereafter we enjoyed a light wrap with chicken breast, spinach and his own famous homemade pesto.  For the main course he treated us with soft and juicy Beef Wellington on a bed of savoury couscous with their all so popular Onion marmalade.  For dessert we had rich and dreamy delicious homemade chocolate brownies – straight from the Zest recipe book. It was so memorial that we suggest to many more couples as you can see from these photos.

Next time you want to enjoy a special date with your special someone, make sure you add a Box of Love from Zest to your list of to do’s. Again and again Roelof and his team shows us why Zest Restaurant is one of the places to go on every local and visitors’ list.
